Drug restrictions are not caused by drug abusers.
If you doubt this, consider why alcohol is easy to obtain legally.
Tell this to the state of Kentucky, where my mom struggles to get the pain meds she needs because the state has come down hard in a shitty, misguided attempt to curb drug abuse. This has nothing to do with alcohol. That’s the fault of the politicians who are making those choices. Not the fault of addicts.
I completely agree. And I have been on the wrong side of that one myself. Coming from an area of (SW) Virginia which has been scapegoated in similar ways. Doctors’ prescribing practices are under extra DEA scrutiny too. The last time I was back home, my mom was dying of cancer and could not get anything approaching adequate pain relief outside of a hospice program. They couldn’t give her another dose if she threw up immediately after taking controlled meds. Besides having chronic pain problems, I literally broke at least one vertebra moving her around, and got an anti-inflammatory injection as the only pain relief. It was a lot worse than when I moved away 4 years before. The kicker? There is literally no evidence that more people are misusing prescription drugs. None. But, “hillbilly heroin” moral panic gets used to justify denying an awful lot of people proper medical treatment. It’s a total mess.
Yes that’s exactly it. People who need the meds can’t get them, and addicts get blamed, but addicts are not at fault in the slightest. They want to pit pain patients against addicts so nobody notices what the real problem is.
