“One in three Native women will be raped in their lifetime and people aren’t screaming from the rooftops and Congress isn’t declaring a national emergency…How can we make people realize that Native American women being victimized at a 50 percent higher rate than all other races in the United States is a problem of epic proportions?…I wrote a piece for a former newspaper where I worked that suggested a young Native American boy was held against his will at an oil-camp in North Dakota and repeatedly raped for a 30-day period until he escaped…no one reacted because it wasn’t happening to them.”
