And as a lawyer I consulted put it, they don’t want to have to spend that much money on you. If you’re older and closer to your death that’s less money they have to spend over time.

Yeah I honestly don’t know how the fuck I got SSI when I did.  Other than the fact that I had a well-documented history of not being able to keep jobs, even in employment programs designed to help disabled teens join the workforce, and that probably helped, a lot.  But even then, I’m not sure why I was approved so quickly and easily.  I was 19 when I was approved, on the first try.  I have been told that my experience with SSI was… highly improbable and very extremely lucky.
