I’ve lost my source of income, and I need some help until I can figure out something else. I’m disabled, mentally ill, and basically alone. My needs are few, but without income, I’m afraid I won’t be able to meet them.

Couldn’t you apply for disability? The government is legally obligated to help you out.

I am. I have been, for years. The government is obligated but it doesn’t want to. I’m not sure what your experience is- maybe you got disability on your first try, or maybe you’ve never applied for it to begin with, but getting on it is HARD for most people. Especially if your disability is not visible.

Well, I have Aspergers Syndrome, which in my experience, isn’t that much of a disability to begin with, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t familiar with the process of getting disability payments. I don’t know where you live, but if you’re clinically diagnosed, then the government pays you, they aren’t allowed to not pay you.

Maybe it’s different outside Ontario, but I haven’t heard of that much of an issue getting disability for those that need it before

There’s like a long thread of people sharing their experiences with Disability putting real disabled people through hell outside of this thread so I suggest you check it out. ‘Haven’t heard of it’ isn’t the same as ‘isn’t a real problem.’ Sorry if I sound snappish, but I get interrogated all the time about why I need help, and it makes my anxiety skyrocket. I’m dangling by a thread here and people keep asking me if I REALLY need that thread.

I don’t know if you need this reminder or not but – you’re also not obligated to keep responding when someone really isn’t getting it and just seems to be upsetting you. You obviously can keep responding if you want, and it may be a good thing to do so. But you also have the option to stop responding, to pretend nobody ever said anything, to just go on with things as if this frustrating and exhausting conversation was not happening. I sometimes forget I'm allowed not to respond to people. And it’s not that I think the people here are malicious, but they don't have to be malicious for them to be not worth the effort of responding to when you’re already low on spoons and upset. (Or for any other reason. Any other reason. You don’t even have the obligation to have a “good reason” not to respond.)
