Today is a Cussing Day.

I’m functionally nonverbal, but that doesn’t mean my mouth doesn’t occasionally come up with random words. I suppress that around people so that they won’t get confused by it – mostly. Some days my mouth doesn’t make any words at all, most days, actually.

But today is a Cussing Day.

Meaning that I don’t think I’ve uttered a single word other than “fuck”.

Taking a crap that hurts too much. "Fuck.“

Snagging my feeding tube on something. "Fuck.”

Getting ambushed by my cat with all her teeth and claws at once. "Fuck.“

Tripping over my own feet. "Fuck.”

Bashing into things at random. "Fuck.“

Dropping things. "Fuck.”

Random twinges of chronic pain stuff. "Fuck.“

It’s like my mouth is stuck on "Fuck.”

It does that some days. A couple of of my caregivers find it kind of amusing, because sometimes it doesn’t sound like “Fuck”. It sounds like “ffffffffffffk.” And they finally figured out that it wasn’t just this random noise I was making, and they tease me about it a lot, but in a friendly way.

One of my caregivers years ago was studying to be a speech pathologist, and she was always interested in what my mouth could and couldn’t say. She said swear words are handled separately from regular words, or something. So there’s an actual reason for Cussing Days, I guess. Other than being a foul-mouthed grumpy stick, I mean.
