When Classic fans get upset when New fans think references to Classic stuff are SOLELY references to New stuff it’s not because we think less of you or think you’re dumb or uninformed

it’s because we are legitimately terrified of Classic being streamrolled over and forgotten

this was why i was afraid to even get into NewWho for years…  
and now i’m probably guilty of it.

Announcement: i’ll always be grateful, not irritated, at reminders of ClassicWho (or EU, of course) stuff i have missed or forgotten.

I was really afraid to watch NewWho too.  I’m glad I did start watching it (I’m nowhere near caught up, because I mostly watch NetFlix although I did pay iTunes for some episodes once).  But I really like ClassicWho (especially First, Fourth, and Sixth Doctors, Four being my favorite) and I was afraid nobody would remember it.  Sort of like when people roughly my age started calling ST:TNG just “Star Trek” and forgetting that there was a series that was just called “Star Trek” that came before it.  (ST:TOS is still my favorite Star Trek series, I don’t know if that makes me weird.)
