autistic-mom asked: My sister almost didn't get a life-saving operation when her appendix burst in her forties because she's fat. I had to yell at the doctors to do it (not to sound like a privileged ally savior, my apologies if I come across that way; we generally don't get along but she has respected me more since then because she believes I saved her life).

You don’t come across that way at all.  People have to have someone to yell at doctors for us in those situations because the doctors won’t listen to us on our own.  And it is downright heroic when someone does that for us.  I still remember every single person on tumblr who said they called in to help me with the feeding tube situation, and I’m incredibly grateful to them for giving me my life.  Sometimes we need people, including people with privilege, to speak up on our behalf, and that’s not a bad thing.
