No boundaries manoominike 

With guidance from Lac Courte Oreilles School instructors and some creative engineering, a group of seniors has figured out how to get a schoolmate safely in a canoe and harvesting wild rice (manoominike) for the very first time. 

From a stripped down wheelchair securely fitted to a custom canoe bracket, Arthur Fleming knocked manoomin today at Pacwawong Lake in northern Wisconsin. Born with spina bifida nearly 13 years ago, the 7th-grader joined the entire LCO middle & high school out on productive rice waters surrounded by bursting fall color. Back onshore at rice camp students took turns parching their harvest over a wood fire. By all measures it’s a memorable day in Ojibwe Country.
