Does anyone else have trouble reading sans-serif fonts on an electronic device (or in general)? I don’t know, I feel like I need the serifs to “anchor” my vision, or something — if that makes sense. I mean, tumblr uses a sans-serif font, but I’m generally okay with it, because posts here aren’t usually very long,* and I can handle reading sans-serif fonts for short periods of time. But when it’s this long story, or long essay, I start having trouble.
*also, another thing about the font used on tumblr: the letters are very “round” (not sure if that’s the right word) and somewhat wide, which makes it easier for some reason. Not sure why. When sans-serif fonts have more compressed, less “round” letters, it causes problems. Hmmn. I wonder if anyone’s ever actually looked into the science of what makes certain fonts easier or harder to read.
How do you do with comic sans? Despite its reputation as an awful font, a lot of autistic and dyslexic people have said it’s a sans serif font that they find easier to read than usual.
Also there’s a font specifically designed for dyslexic people.
Supposedly sans serif is easier to read on screens and serif is easier to read off of screens, in general, but I don’t know if that’s true or if that’s just some convention passed down through the years.
