Anonymous asked: Do you think there is a respectful way to interact with indigenous/endangered languages as an outside linguist?

selchieproductions:

If a community asks for help from the outside, then sure, but the best thing a linguist could do in order to help a community is to educate the members of said community and give them access to the tools they need to document their own language, not because a linguist wants to study it, but because the community wants to revitalise their own language.
