 Dear Anti-Moffat fans,

(Apologies for the tinyurl. Tumblr doesn’t like the actual address for some reason.)

So far I’ve tried to avoid blogging too extensively on the subject of Moffat’s writing, so as not to alienate or upset friends or site members who like his work. But after tonight, seeing some of the things being posted right now and up to this point, I feel like I need to put this out there. I won’t go too deeply into my own opinions, as it’s been said many times before by countless others in far more eloquent ways. But the fact is, a lot of people for various reasons greatly dislike it and wish things could be different.

Well, what if they could?

I don’t mean in an official way. Sadly I don’t have that power. Yet. But I do have a website. A website specifically created to fill in plot holes, make corrections and craft back stories that make sense and don’t clash with established canon or break too far away from reality as we know it. It’s anti-misogyny, pro representation, and it’s well researched. We have staff specifically assigned to the protection of historical and scientific accuracy, feminism and representation.

Are you sick of all companions being young, straight white human females from the 21st century? Are you sick of all the slapping? The random and unnecessary kissing? The big red reset buttons? Are you against undoing character development? Of being told and not shown? Then this is the site for you.

As a form of collaborative writing that the current staff members are all used to and for general ease of use, it takes the form of a text based roleplay and is based on the forum linked to in this post. For those unfamiliar with this concept, members either create or adopt characters and control them in a form of pass-along fiction. This means that characters have greater personal freedoms. And as no faces are seen or voices heard, we are unrestricted by individual members having to move on. In other words, we can write out characters or incarnations when it’s right for the story.

We’re beginning with Season One, Episode One of the new series, and from then onward are creating our own ‘alternate multiverse’ by tweaking a few minor details and following their consequences throughout the entire new series. Many of the same characters will appear and many of the same situations too. But tweaked and fixed and shifted around until they make more sense and blend seamlessly into what is collectively agreed to be established site canon. Right now, this is just broadcast episodes up to and including episode one. By the time we reach the current era, there will be little similarity. But you’ll still be able to follow or play newer characters that you’ve become fond of.

It’s a new site, meaning that most characters are still open and most arcs up for discussion and development. We also accept historical figures and original characters up to a point. I don’t know at this point how far it will all go and whether anything will come of it. But it’s my hope that if nothing else, we will eventually be able to demonstrate to the BBC that it’s possible to develop a good solid story of this type with well balanced characters, in an accurate and coherent way which neither insults nor marginalises anybody.

We have some fantastic writers already, and we’d love to welcome the rest of you.
