Anonymous asked: The child did not ask to be placed there and it cannot fight off an abortion and while I understand that it will be hard for the teenager or mother all I can think is you are strong enough. Be strong enough for yourself and the child

The fetus did not ask to be placed there and cannot “fight off” an abortion (lol all i can picture is a fetus in boxing gloves at the moment) because it’s not sentient.

Stop acting like that fetus is automatically granted the right to a pregnant person’s body. Stop trivializing the feelings and needs of pregnant people by saying shit like “be strong enough for yourself and the child.”

Stop acting like everyone’s situation can be fixed with some pseudo-inspirational bullshit like ~*be strong*~ and stop acting like a person who chooses abortion isn’t strong.

Dear Anon:

As someone who nearly died twice to have very wanted children, who felt myself almost bleed out and going into shock, who was on bedrest for months *after* giving birth because of what it does to me, who has gained additional disabilities because of my pregnancies and only survived and able to care for my kids afterwards due to living in the UK with free health care and benefits and a very caring partner…

IT IS NOTHING ABOUT BEING STRONG.

People die every day from pregnancy and childbirth. That is not “hard”, that’s death - are you going pay for their funerals, comfort their families, talk about how strong they were?  More people will face lifetimes of disabilities because of pregnancy and childcare with inadequate care and support because of our ableist society - are you going to help fund rehabilitation, treatment, painkillers? Cause I’ve yet to find a pro-lifer who gives a damn about how strong I was through my four pregnancies when I’m trying to carry groceries home on a mobility scooter. Going to help expand parenting and disability benefits so poor and disabled parents can care for their kids? Cause all the pro-lifers I know are really against welfare benefits. Caring for people with post natal depression? You guys going to help with that? Cause a lot of people fear having more kids after dealing with that - it’s not hard, it can be soul destroying and dangerous (li9ke pregnancy and childbirth itself). Going to help people dealing with domestic violence (as the domestic violence hotline in the US has shown, ¾ths of those calling were affected by reproductive coercion, forcing people into pregnancies against their will to make them more dependant on their abusers. You’re helping those people by saying that just need to “be strong”).

It is nothing about being strong. Nothing. That is insulting to the memories and lives of so many with that rhetoric, it does nothing to help babies or mothers to tell us be strong.
