The Best Type Of Friend

I love you because
I can walk into your room
Talk to you for hours
And you don’t even notice
That I haven’t said a word
And that I left my talking computer
At home again
By accident

[Also posted at my main poetry blog, which has a comments section.]

I have several friends who have remarked on this phenomenon.  We will be having an entire conversation, and it is not by far one-sided, and suddenly after 30 minutes, an hour, even several hours, they realize that I haven’t been talking, that my computer that normally talks for me is not in the room, and that I have not uttered a single word during our conversations.  This usually happens with autistic people and cousins, because they’re more likely to be able to read my expressions and responses when I’m not typing than a totally neurotypical person would be.
