Spring

plants bud and blossom
rain and mud replacing snow
as the sun comes out

dad’s old red backpack
hangs expectant on doorknob
awaiting a hike

poems every day

I promised myself
to write poems every day
springtime in my heart

     flowers blossom inside me
I plant poems by the road

tellusanotherstory:

A how to make flower crowns with dandelions. Not sure if it will work on other flowers, but as long as the stalk/pedicel is long it should be alright O v O
Also I hope it’s understandable ahah

I used to make, and wear, those all the time during my… my mom would probably call it my Luna Lovegood phase :-)

I probably wouldn’t do it now just because I’d rather see living ones than dead ones.  I really love dandelions, they’re one of my favorite flowers and I hate that they’re considered a pest or a weed.  I love the way it’s damn near impossible to get rid of them.  I love the fact that Donna Williams signs her name online with a *) at ht eend – a dandelion as a symbol of resilience.  I would do it too if it didn’t feel like I’d be taking something that truly belongs to someone else.  (I was first online in an era where stealing another perosn’s ASCII art from their signature file just Was Not Done EVER.   You had to ask permision.  And I don’t feel strongly enough about it to ask permission.)

This is possibly my favorite childhood picture ever (it ties with one where i’m climbing a tree… maybe).  We were in the woods, and my mom had put flowers in my hair and wanted to photograph them.  Meanwhile I was staring at the hillside, it was na overwhelmingly reddish-brown color and I was losing myself in that, as my mom snapped the picture.  And apparently playing with my hair.  It reminds me strongly of a photo of Donna Williams as a child where she was standing ‘staring at nothing’ and playing with her hair.
My parents were inclined to describe my staring at nothing as “thoughtful”, but it was more the absence of conventional thought, and a whole lot of sensing.  I guess I like the photo because it reminds me of that time, and because (to me) the presence of that sensing mode of thought is so abundantly clear here. But I couldn’t explain why.

Blooming

Some plants must be coaxed
Carefully into blooming
You are such a plant

When this plant blooms
I hold rituals in my heart
Celebrating life

Nothing can evoke
More of life’s fragility
Than that rare blossom

[Writing prompt — blooming — provided by chordatesrock. You can always leave an ask on my tumblr of a word or short phrase and I will try to eventually respond with writing. I try for poetry but fiction or nonfiction may happen as well. As usual, this was also published on my main poetry blog, which has a comments section.]

Haiku #6: Sidewalk dandelions

dandelions bloom through
cracks in the sidewalk
pushing toward sunlight
