a PSA about archaic English
If it sounds like Shakespeare wrote it, it’s Early Modern English. Thou is used as an intimate second-person pronoun, and some verbs in the third-person present tense end in -eth. Otherwise, it should be mostly comprehensible to speakers of modern English.
(An example of Early Modern English: “When I did hear the motley fool thus moral on the time, my lungs began to crow like chanticleer, that fools should be so deep-contemplative.” —Shakespeare, As You Like It)
If it sounds like Chaucer wrote it, it’s Middle English. The words will be strange, it will sometimes seem like nonsense, but at a glance it will look like English: it uses the same alphabet and roughly similar distribution of letters. If you can’t understand a word of it and you don’t think it’s Old English, it’s Middle English.
(An example of Middle English: “In Southwerk at the Tabard as I lay redy to wenden on my pilgrymage to Caunterbury with ful devout corage, at nyght was come into that hostelrye wel nyne and twenty in a compaignye of sondry folk, by aventure yfalleIn felaweshipe, and pilgrimes were they alle, that toward Caunterbury wolden ryde.” —Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales)
If it looks like a different language and uses a slightly different alphabet from modern English, and looks sort of like Latin except it uses thorn (þ) or eth (ð) and none of the words are even slightly similar, it’s Old English. This is basically a different language from modern English.
(An example of Old English: “Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum, si þin nama gehalgod. To becume þin rice, gewurþe ðin willa, on eorðan swa swa on heofonum. Urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg, and forgyf us ure gyltas, swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum. And ne gelæd þu us on costnunge, ac alys us of yfele. Soþlice.” —the Wessex Gospel)
Yay, someone else who knows!
Also, that passage from the Wessex Gospel is The Lord’s Prayer (The Our Father). Brother #3 (the classicist) read it at our wedding (we had a medieval wedding).

WARNING FOR THOSE WITH OR RECOVERING FROM EATING DISORDERS, ESPECIALLY ONES WITH OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE HABITS, WHO ARE THINKING OF DOWNLOADING THE IOS 8 UPDATE. PLEASE REBLOG.
The new IOS8 update contains an app named Health which CANNOT BE DELETED.
The app allows you to choose which aspects of your health you choose to monitor, but available categories include “Body Measurements”, which includes body weight, and “Fitness”, which contains sections for calories consumed and calories burned.
While this may be useful for those looking to monitor their fitness, it could be triggering and harmful to those suffering with or in recovery from eating disorders, especially in sufferers with obsessive compulsive tendencies they find it very hard to abstain from, such as calorie counting, body measuring and weighing.
Whilst of course the app cannot force you to use it, it cannot be deleted, so will be present within your apps and can be a source of feelings of temptation to record numbers and of guilt and judgement for not using the app.
If you personally feel you could not emotionally handle the presence of this app, and it would be detrimental to your recovery, please do not download IOS8. I do not know if a new IOS can be avoided permanently (if anyone has any information on this please do add it to the post), but if it cannot then please use the time you have to prepare yourself for the app, and to reinforce reminders that you do not have to calorie count, you do not have to weigh yourself, you do not owe proof of exercise to anyone, person or app.

Yesterday we had a referendum on whether Scotland should become an independent country. I don’t know where you’re from or anything or how much you know about this so I’ll direct you to this post which will let you know a bit about Westminster politics, etc.
The vote was 55% no 45% yes. The only age group who actually had an overall no vote was over 60s which means the BBC did what they set out to do and terrified the elderly (who generally only have access to biased news sources, not social media) into thinking they would lose their pensions if they voted yes, which is a lie.
Today the country felt dismal. I saw people openly crying on the bus. We had such a strong, positive yes campaign and there was excitement for change before the results were released.
And now Ed Miliband has said, less than ten hours later, that he does not support further devolution for Scotland a.k.a what we were promised if we voted no. David Cameron says it will happen but that man talks so much shit his face should be brown and sticky.
And to top it all off, a bunch of unionists were in George Square earlier today taunting and mocking yes supporters and singing sectarian songs, making nazi salutes, and there are rumours of rioting and a yes supporter being stabbed, although this remains unconfirmed,
Basically, we have dropped our trousers and bent over for Westminster once again, ignored the cries for help of the four districts in Scotland who did vote yes and also happen to be the poorest areas (Glasgow, West Dumbartonshire, North Lanarkshire, and Dundee)
I am ashamed of my country. I never thought my pride in being Scottish would ever be dampened but here I sit today cringing at Edinburgh and Midlothian’s results.
Gonna publish this so everyone can see, hope that’s ok.

A saltire was burned today. I’m still disgusted. People have been stabbed and beaten today. Nazi salutes were thrown infront of a war memorial today. Young people have had abuse hurled at them left and right. Do not ignore this. Do not ignore what’s happening in Glasgow tonight.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COOKIE! ♥
Cookie turned 3 on September 11th~ Because of all the other things going on we didn’t get to celebrate her birthday, but on Saturday my mom visited me and we finally gave her the feast she deserves~
She was so excited and knew that she was missing her feast - everyday since her birthday she had been staring at me from her cage, crying from time to time for a treat. When I finally brought over the plate I thought she was going to explode! She started wheeking so loud! She got oranges, cucumbers, carrots, and orange bell pepper (all in very large quantities lol). Biscotti was also super excited and ate a lot of the bell pepper, but Cookie took all of the carrots. Their cage was covered in orange this whole weekend lol.
Also, THIS IS OUR 1,000th POST!!! I’ve been waiting to get these photos because I wanted this milestone to be about Cookie’s birthday, since this blog wouldn’t exist without her and her sister ♥
